Sallie Hughes, Ph.D.
Professor and Associate Dean for Global Engagement, School of Communication at the University of Miami
Join us as we explore the current state of independent journalism in Cuba and the challenges that journalists face in their work.
Despite the Cuban government's tight control over media, a growing number of independent journalists have emerged in recent years to provide alternative perspectives on social, political, and economic issues. However, these journalists face significant obstacles, including censorship, harassment, and imprisonment. Through real-life examples, Elaine Díaz and Sallie Hughes will discuss the important role of independent journalism in Cuba and the difficulties faced by those who practice it.
The program will be followed by an audience question and answer session.
