The Office of Faculty Affairs is hosting the Groundwater Approach workshop for FACULTY ONLY led by the Racial Equity Institute (REI) organizers.
What is the Groundwater Approach?
The Groundwater metaphor is designed to help practitioners internalize the reality that we live in a racially structured society that causes racial inequality. The metaphor is based on three observations:
- Racial inequality looks the same across systems,
- The socio-economic difference does not explain the racial inequality,
- Inequalities are caused by systems, regardless of people's culture or behavior.
