 , FL 33127\n\n \n\nThe University of Miami presents Eat Me\, an exhibition
  by Master of Fine Arts candidate Júlia Galvão Ramos. Come celebrate wit
 h us at a special reception with the artist on Saturday\, May 10\, 2025\, 
 from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM.\n\n“Eat Me” came from the idea that the femal
 e body is something to be consumed and enjoyed\, and explores the complica
 tions that arise from being perceived that way as a woman. The title refer
 ences the term “cheesecake\,” which was used in the past to describe p
 in-up imagery intended for the male gaze.\n\nAfter being compared to a “
 cheesecake\,” Júlia found the term troubling especially in a contempora
 ry context\, yet recognized that women are still often viewed through that
  lens. In response\, she incorporates imagery from 1950s gentlemen’s mag
 azines into her work. The exhibition features a range of mixed media piece
 s as well as artist books created by Júlia.\n\nABOUT THE ARTIST \n \n\nJ
 úlia Galvão Ramos was born in São Paulo\, Brazil. She moved to the Unit
 ed States at the age of 16 to attend boarding school in Broward County. In
  2022\, she received her BFA with a focus on printmaking and a minor in ar
 t history from Ringling College of Art and Design. Her work explores her e
 xperiences as a woman and the challenges of navigating the various ways sh
 e is perceived by others.\n\nEat Me is on view until May 16\, 2025\, at th
