Prof. Pratim Biswas will be holding an online zoom seminar titled ”Aerosol Science and Technology Enabling Advanced Materials Research” on Friday, March 4th at 3:30 PM via Zoom.
Abstract:
Aerosols, particles that are suspended in a gaseous medium, are ubiquitous and found in nature and engineered systems. They occur in a range of sizes, shapes and compositions and are relevant to important phenomena such as climate change, human health, environmental and energy processes. These particles are both inadvertently and intentionally produced in a variety of systems. Starting with the enabling nature and applications of aerosol science and technology, the importance of developing an understanding of particle formation and growth will be discussed vis a vis nanomaterial synthesis applications. Following this, couple of case studies for nanomaterials synthesis will be discussed. A range of studies conducted to synthesize light harvesting complexes by self assembly will be discussed. Here the role of charge of the droplet on the evaporation process and the eventually self-assembly will also be discussed. Systems to produce perovskite nanoparticles for solar energy harvesting will be discussed. In addition to specific composition, the evolution of the crystal phases of the resultant compounds will be discussed. Time permitting, an aerosol droplet mediated technique to obtained crumpled graphene oxide structures will be presented. Their potential applications with supported catalysts for carbon dioxide reduction will be discussed.
