#research, seminar, physiology, cellular, biophysics, pharmacology, kidney,Dr. Paul DeCaen is a tenured Associate Professor at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine and an internationally recognized expert in ion channel molecular pharmacology. His research focuses on the molecular mechanisms underlying ion channel-related diseases using structural biology, cryo-EM, and biophysical approaches. Dr. DeCaen is a recipient of the Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers (PECASE), the highest honor awarded by the United States government to early-career scientists and engineers. His seminar will highlight recent discoveries on polycystin ion channels, their role in kidney disease and neuronal signaling, and new structural insights into autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease (ADPKD).
