The Department of Art & Art History at the University of Miami presents Ode to the 305: A Love Letter to Miami, curated by Ronald Sánchez. Please join us for an opening reception on Wednesday, June 10, 2026, from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m.
Ode to the 305: A Love Letter to Miami is an exhibition featuring a diverse range of works that highlight the grittiness of Miami’s raw, unpolished character, marked by older infrastructure, working class neighborhoods, and a strong sense of authenticity. While the dominant image of Miami is one of glamorous beaches, neon lit nightlife, pastel art deco buildings, and a vibrant party atmosphere, this exhibition turns its gaze elsewhere. It explores the parts of the city that contrast sharply with that polished, tourist friendly image: the cracked sidewalks, the faded storefronts, and the quiet resilience of everyday life away from the resorts.
Featuring works by Valerie Catalan, Mark Herrera, Katelyn Kopenhaver, Isabella Rodriguez, Richard Rodriguez, Roscoe B Thicke III, and Julia Zurilla.
