About this Event
1228 Dickenson Drive, Coral Gables, FL 33146
https://theatre.as.miami.eduAs part of the Grand Opening of our new Black Box Theatre, the Department of Theatre Arts will be presenting five new musicals that are written and developed by students of the Tisch School of the Arts, Graduate Musical Theatre Writing Program at New York University. This new creative partnership with NYU will be under the direction and musical direction of NDavid Williams. Funny, poignant, and thought provoking (often the same time) these twenty-minute musicals are tiny jewels of musical storytelling:
THE MEATBALL: A mother and dog try to keep their baby safe from the dangers of the world in this apocalyptic, yet hopeful tale.
STRAWMAN: Two straw-crossed lovers contend with a “malevolent” creature lurking in and amongst the corn.
THE YELLOW WALLPAPER: Based on the short story of the same name, this eerie musical examines what mysteries lie just behind the wallpaper of a mother’s nursery.
MOTHER’S GOOSE: A woman goes on a wild ride as she tries to navigate how she feels about her mother, her city, herself, and someone special.
BLOOD DRIVE: In a blood donation center, a man gives blood but then receives something surprising in return – a glimpse of what may be the ideal woman.
Production opens on March 25th at 8:00 PM in the new Black Box Theatre and runs through March 29th (with a 2PM matinee and evening performance). Tickets are free, but reservations are strongly recommended.
