Etienne Charles, director
Visionary, restless, and always ahead of the curve, Miles Davis reshaped jazz—and popular music—every decade from the 1950s through the 1990s. From his bebop beginnings with Charlie Parker to the cool lyricism of Kind of Blue, the orchestral sweep of Sketches of Spain, the electric experiments of Bitches Brew, and the funk-infused grooves of his final band in 1991, Davis created a catalogue that defines the jazz canon.
To mark the year of his centennial, Professor Etienne Charles and the Frost Studio Jazz Band trace that remarkable arc through the many sounds of Miles.
