#GeneticsNeil Risch is the Lamond Family Foundation Distinguished Professor in Human Genetics, Founding Director of the Institute for Human Genetics, and Professor and former chair of the Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics at the University of California San Francisco. Dr. Risch received his undergraduate training at theCalifornia Institute of Technology in mathematics and his Ph.D. from the University of California Los Angeles in Biomathematics.
He has previously held professorships at Columbia, Yale, and Stanford Universities. His research interests arein human population genetics, genetic epidemiology and statistical genetics. He is the recipient of the Curt SternAward from the American Society of Human Genetics (ASHG), a fellow of the AAAS, the California Academy ofSciences and the National Academy of Medicine and is past president of the ASHG. He is recognized for his novelstatistical approaches in human genetics and in particular the introduction of genome-wide association studies.
