The Department of Physiology and Biophysics would like to invite you to a research seminar presented by
Dr. Gucan Dai, PhD, Assistant Professor in the Edward A. Doisy Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at Saint Louis University School of Medicine.
Dr. Dai’s research focuses on how plasma membrane compartmentalization organizes localized cell signaling. His work demonstrates that cholesterol-rich lipid nanodomains play a key role in modulating neuronal excitability and ion channel function, particularly pacemaker HCN channels. Using advanced techniques including patch-clamp electrophysiology and fluorescence-based imaging approaches, his studies reveal how lipid domains, cholesterol, and RhoA signaling regulate HCN channel activity and action potential firing. These mechanisms contribute to the adaptation and recovery of sensory neurons following nerve injury, with important implications for neuropathic pain.
