“Cholinergic potentiation of the vision, from rodents to humans”
Boosting the central cholinergic system during perceptual learning tasks robustly enhances visual perception in rodent models and to a certain extent in humans. The mechanisms of cholinergic enhancement are closely linked to the attentional processes, long-term potentiation, and modulation of the excitatory-inhibitory (E/I) balance in the primary visual cortex. Here, we examine how activation of the cholinergic neurons could help visual performance and vision restoration.
