The evening opens with Greg Watson’s colorful, Four Textures for Orchestra, winner of the composition faculty’s annual competition. Esteemed Frost professor Charles Castleman performs solo violin for Dvořák’s Violin Concerto. The Chicago Tribune called Castleman, “a first-rate musical intelligence.” Mahler’s extraordinary Symphony No. 6 masterwork concludes the program.
