DESCRIPTION:LIST(e)N Courageously Documentary Film and Workshop\n\n \n\nMon
day\, September 30th\n\n6:00pm - 8:30pm\n\nThe Kislak Center at the Univer
sity of Miami\n\n \n\nThe Experience:\nListen Courageously is an experienc
e designed to make people more aware of their listening blocks and better
able to engage in heart-centered conversations that lead to understanding.
It was inspired by the success of the award-winning feature film “List(
e)n”\, after screening at prestigious film festivals around the United S
tates. The film brings together three sets of individuals with opposing vi
ewpoints\, to listen to each other\, connect at a human level and transcen
d their differences. During the experience\, film director and workshop cr
eator Juliana Tafur will screen “List(e)n” (80 minutes) and sensitize
participants on the importance of listening to understand people’s stori
es\, and how those stories shape them. She’ll also share the science beh
ind compassionate listening and finding shared identities–two powerful r
esearch-based skills that allow us to connect across our differences. \n\n
\n\nThe Film:\nIt is no secret that we live in extremely polarizing times
\, with hot-button political issues weaving their way into the fabric of e
very aspect of our lives and culture. Amidst all the noise\, we all want t
o make sure our voice is heard. But how often do we stop to listen? List(e
)n (80 minutes) invites people with opposing viewpoints on some of our mos
t divisive issues – guns\, abortion and immigration — to listen to eac
h other. As the exchanges unfold\, and the participants take the time to g
et to know each other\, moments of unexpected emotional connection and und
erstanding arise. This powerful film is wise to the ways we sometimes hate
that which we don’t understand. It is also brave enough to ask: Can we
at least try to understand those with whom we most disagree? Watch the tra
 iler here\n\n \n\nJuliana Tafur\, Film Director:\n\n\n\n \n\nSponsored by:
