Join us as historian and author Teresa Fernández Soneira presents on her book, "La bella cubana: Rostros de mujeres en la Cuba del siglo XIX." The book includes 162 color images comprised of ambrotypes, tintypes, albumen images, daguerreotypes, and other photographic techniques from the 19th century that were made in Cuba by the most famous photographers of the era. Through these images, accompanied by poems and literary reflections by writers of the time, the author creates a visual and literary history of the social legacy of Cuban women.
A moderated conversation between Fernández Soneira and Madeline Cámara Betancourt, Ph.D., professor of Latin American literature at the University of South Florida, will follow the presentation. The event will conclude with an audience question and answer session.

Le invitamos a la presentación del libro "La bella cubana: Rostros de mujeres en la Cuba del siglo XIX" por Teresa Fernández Soneira. El libro abarca de 162 imágenes en color compuestos por ambrotipos, ferrotipos, imágenes a la albúmina, daguerrotipos y otras técnicas fotográficas del siglo XIX, realizadas en Cuba por los más afamados fotógrafos de ese periodo. A través de estas imágenes, acompañadas por poemas y reflexiones por escritores de la época, la autora logra crear una historia visual y literaria del legado social de la mujer cubana.
Luego de su presentación, Fernández Soneira estará en conversación con Madeline Cámara Betancourt, Ph.D., profesora de literatura latinoamericana en la Universidad de Florida del Sur. El evento concluirá con una sesión de preguntas y respuestas para el público.
