"Real estate, machine learning, and environmental economics: An overview of research and conversation with Alex van de Minne"
Alex holds a BSc and MSc from the Faculty of Architecture and the Built Environment at Delft University of Technology and earned his PhD in Real Estate Finance from the University of Amsterdam in 2015. He was a Post-Doc at the MIT Center for Real Estate from 2015 to 2019, where he served as a Research Scientist and was the founder and head of the Real Estate Price Dynamics Platform. He is currently a Professor of Real Estate at the University of Connecticut. He has held roles in both academia and industry, including at MIT, Moody’s Analytics, MSCI, Equity International, and the Federal Reserve Bank of Philadelphia.
His research focuses on the intersection of real estate, machine learning, and environmental economics, with over 20 peer-reviewed articles in leading journals. He is consistently ranked among the top real estate scholars in the REAL ranking and is a co-author of the current edition of the widely used textbook Commercial Real Estate Analysis for Investment, Finance, and Development (Routledge, 2026).
