DESCRIPTION:Join us for the sixth installment in a new breakthrough monthly
film series at the Cosford Cinema focusing on current world issues such a
s migration and social inclusion\, peace and security\, ageing populations
 \, democracy\, climate change and artificial intelligence.\n\n \n\nThe ser
ies is intended to bring two types of audiences together: Movie lovers and
people who care about current events.\n\n \n\nThe series continues at 4 p
 .m. Saturday\, April 22 with Miami-Dade County’s pioneer eco-artist and
inaugural artist-in-residence Xavier Cortada. Working with his team at the
Xavier Cortada Foundation\, he will engage guests in a series of thought
-provoking and solutions-oriented art projects that explore our deep inter
connectedness with the rest of the planet.\n\n \n\n \n\n \n\nCortada will
invite everyone in attendance to participate in "The Underwater\," a coun
tywide campaign that’s catalyzing action on sea level rise through eleva
tion-driven public art installations.\n\n \n\nAfter receiving their person
alized Elevation Marker\, participants will have the opportunity to join C
ortada in the "Longitudinal Installation\," a ritual aimed at building emp
athy and connection that he performed at both of the Earth’s poles.\n\n
\n\nInside the cinema\, Cortada will provide a preview exhibition of "Unde
rwater Florida\,” hand-painted Elevation Markers that he created at 54 c
oastal city halls to expose their vulnerability to rising seas\, and share
reflections on how we can mobilize communities around the climate crisis
by tapping into our own creativity.\n\n \n\nThe program will close with "D
O NOT OPEN\," a project asking the audience to write a letter to someone i
n 2123 that will be sealed and stored in the University of Miami’s archi
ves for 100 years.\n\n \n\nAdmission is FREE but registration is required
at link above. Please join us!
