About this Event
Dale Underwood, director
Ross Harbaugh, cello
The Frost Saxophone Ensemble is a unique ensemble to the Frost School as it is a collection of saxophones varying from rare saxophones such as the Sopranino and Contrabass Saxophone (Tubax) as well as the many saxophone's between them (soprano - bass). This ensemble has performed original works for this instrumentation as well as high profile orchestral transcriptions such as Igor Stravinsky’s “Rite of Spring” (arr. Espinoza), Aaron Copland’s “Old American Songs” (arr. Brisson) featuring Kim Josephson, baritone and even Camille Saint-Saëns “Organ Symphony” (arr. Espinoza) featuring alumni Seth Carlson on Frost's brand new organ in the Knight Center for Music Innovation. Recently this group performed Rhapsody in Blue with Dean Shelton Berg and also featured jazz saxophonist Pete Christleib.
This concert is another particularly special performance as this is our fourth consecutive concert featuring our highly esteemed faculty from the Frost School. Tonight will feature Ross Harbaugh, cello on Antonin Dvorak's "Cello Concerto" arranged by Audrey Cupples (Ret. US Marine Band). The Frost Saxophone Ensemble will also be premiering a new works by faculty composer Dr. Charles Mason as well as graduate conductor Andrew Keiser’s arrangement of Claude Debussy’s “Petite Suite”.
