About this Event

The Frost Saxophone Ensemble is a unique ensemble to the Frost School as it is a collection of saxophones varying from rare saxophones such as the Sopranino and Contrabass Saxophone (Tubax) as well as the many saxophone's between them (soprano - bass). This ensemble has performed original works for this instrumentation as well as high profile orchestral transcriptions such as Igor Stravinsky’s “Rite of Spring” (arr. Espinoza), Aaron Copland’s “Old American Songs” (arr. Brisson) featuring Kim Josephson, baritone and even Camille Saint-Saëns “Organ Symphony” (arr. Espinoza) featuring alumni Seth Carlson on Frost's brand new organ in the Knight Center for Music Innovation.
This concert is particularly special as we will be hosting special guests Dean Shelton Berg and jazz saxophonist Pete Christlieb for an epic collaboration. The repertoire will include George Gershwin’s “Rhapsody in Blue” (arr. Bricault) as a celebration of its 100th year. In addition there will be various arrangements by Frost professor Dr. Steve Guerra for the ensemble and guest artists.
