Join the Frost Wind Ensemble for a vibrant and powerful program exploring musical traditions from around the world. The concert opens with Khaen, a new work by Viskamol Chaiwanichsiri that blends the sounds and spirit of Southeast Asia with Western instrumentation. Gilda Lyons’ Cenizas offers a deeply personal reflection on her Nicaraguan heritage, capturing the resilience of its people in the face of natural and human-made tragedies.
The program also marks the 40th anniversary of Pulitzer Prize-winning composer Michael Colgrass’s landmark work for wind ensemble, Winds of Nagual. Inspired by Carlos Castaneda’s spiritual journey into Yaqui mysticism under the guidance of don Juan Matus, this epic tone poem follows a man of the technological age in search of his creative self—the nagual.
