Learn about native wildlife, nature, and local conservation efforts through an interactive experience with educators from the Zoo Miami Foundation as they present on the Florida Everglades. Nicole Hunnewell, Nicole Johnson, and Hannah Watts will highlight the importance of the Everglades ecosystem and the keystone species that call it home.

Discovering Carnivorous Plants
Learn how these fascinating plants attract, catch, and digest their prey. Manny Herrera is a member of the International Carnivorous Plant Society and has educated the public on carnivorous plants and their cultivation for many years. He has grown carnivorous plants for over 30 years, with cultivars named after him. Some of the plants in his rare collection are native to Florida, while others come from Borneo, Sumatra, and the Philippines. Join us for a presentation on these eccentric plants and an opportunity to see them live.

He is also the proud owner of honeybee colonies certified by the Apiary Division of the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services. Come share Ray's passion, discover the world of bees, and learn the basics of beekeeping.

Conversations with the Ocean: Contemplative Practices for Climate Grief
The climate emergency is awakening deep grief in us. How can contemplative practices help us touch our grief without being overwhelmed or falling into despair? Reflecting on our interdependent relationship with the natural world and engaging in dialogue with the earth can allow us to tap into grief’s wisdom and become true, resilient allies. Join Kelly Miller and special guest, Marga Laube, as they offer approaches and practices to address these challenges.

Birding the Coral Gables Campus
Learn to spot and identify the birds that call the University of Miami home. Liz Gushee is an avid birder and is a member of South Florida’s Tropical Audubon Society and Phoebes Birding, a group dedicated to connecting women to nature. Liz will lead an hour-long walk on the Coral Gables campus, looking for birds along the water’s edge, in the live oak clusters, and in the Gifford Arboretum. All levels of birders are welcome. Registration is limited to 15 participants.
