A Lecture by Dr. Don Walicek
Don E. Walicek is Professor of English and Linguistics at the University of Puerto Rico's Río Piedras Campus, where he is Director of the Institute of Caribbean Studies and editor of Sargasso. He holds an MA in Latin American Studies from the University of Texas at Austin, an MFA in Creative Writing (poetry) from New York University, and a doctorate in English from the University of Puerto Rico. His areas of interest include sociolinguistics, creolistics, and cultural studies. His publications include articles, chapters, and edited volumes on the social life of language. His current book project examines language contact and speech community formation in Haiti and the Dominican Republic.
