About this Event
Connect and Create is designed to open and engage your mind, stimulate your imagination, and enhance your skills to support an inclusive workplace and community. We welcome all participants to look at and discuss works of art. A background in art/art history is not necessary to be part of this interactive experience.
Open to all staff and faculty, this session will discuss artwork created by two groundbreaking women artists.
- Dorothea Lange (b.1895-d.1965) was an American documentary photographer and photojournalist, best known for her Depression-era work for the Farm Security Administration. Lange's photographs influenced the development of documentary photography and humanized the consequences of the Great Depression.
- Carrie Mae Weems (b. 1953) is an influential contemporary American artist, whose work investigates family relationships, cultural identity, sexism, class, political systems, and the consequences of power. Weems has developed a complex body of art employing photographs, text, fabric, audio, digital images, installation, and video.
