#computingPlease join us for the University of Miami's inaugural Computing Day, Friday April 14, 2023, from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM at the new Frost Institute for Chemistry and Molecular Science building on the Coral Gables campus.
Computing Day is part of a broad initiative to foster interdisciplinary collaboration and innovation in computing. The event convenes corporate and government professionals, faculty and student scholars, and other audiences engaged in all facets of computing as we design the future.
Highlights include a panel of alumni industry experts, faculty and student poster presentations, and a keynote address from Pierre Baldi, director of the Institute for Genomics and Bioinformatics and associate director of the Center for Machine Learning and Intelligent Systems at the University of California, Irvine, who has made significant contributions to the theory of AI and deep learning.

Keynote Speaker • PIERRE BALDI, PhD | 10:15 AM
Pierre Baldi earned MS degrees in Mathematics and Psychology from the University of Paris, and a PhD in Mathematics from the California Institute of Technology. He is currently a Distinguished Professor in the Department of Computer Science, Director of the Institute for Genomics and Bioinformatics, and Associate Director of the Center for Machine Learning and Intelligent Systems at the University of California Irvine. The long-term focus of Dr. Baldi's research is on understanding intelligence in brains and machines. He has made several contributions to the theory of AI and deep learning, and developed and applied AI and deep learning methods for the natural sciences to address problems in physics (e.g., exotic particle detection), chemistry (e.g., reaction prediction), and biomedicine (e.g. biomedical imaging analysis). He recently published his fifth book: Deep Learning in Science, Cambridge University Press (2021).
His honors include the 1993 Lew Allen Award at JPL (NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory at California Institute of Technology), the 2010 Eduardo R. Caianiello Prize for research in machine learning, and election to Fellow of the AAAS, AAAI, IEEE, ACM, and ISCB. In addition, he has co-founded several startup companies.

Eduardo "Eddy" Vadia, MD | Co-Founder Access Physicians
Dr. Eduardo Vadia graduated from the University of Miami School of Medicine in 2006. He completed his Internal Residency Residency, Chief Medical Residency, and Pulmonary & Critical Care Fellowship at UT Southwestern in Dallas, TX. Dr. Vadia was tenured as a faculty physician at UT Southwestern through April 2019, where he focused his efforts on medical education in the Parkland Hospital ICU. He is currently boarded in Internal Medicine, Pulmonary Medicine, and Critical Care Medicine.
During his fellowship, Dr Vadia co-founded Access Physicians, a multi-specialty telemedicine physician group focused on "scaling clinical excellence" in its effort to deliver care to high-acuity, high-complexity patients in the inpatient setting. Dr Vadia grew the company from inception to the second-largest inpatient telemedicine group in the country. Access Physicians had over 200 hospital deployments across 30 states, managed over 600 physicians, and secured enterprise agreements with many of the largest health and hospital systems in the country. Access Physicians was acquired in March, 2021 by SOC Telemed.
Dr Vadia has returned home to Miami and is still focused on high-impact innovation as an investor and as a founder.

Danny Carvajal | VP of Product Excellence, Contentsquare
Danny is a seasoned product development team coach and organizational leader with extensive experience building high-performing interdisciplinary product teams. From startups to Fortune 100 companies, he helps teams scale their innovation efforts and unlock collaboration at all levels by leveraging agile and design thinking frameworks. Today, Danny is the VP of Product Excellence at Contentsquare, responsible for Product Operations and Program Management. His prior companies include Samsung, Ultimate Software, Jawbone, and Humana. Danny earned his BBA from University of Miami in 2008.
Jeanna Hamilton | Booking.com
Jeanna Hamilton graduated from UM in December 2007, with a Bachelor's degree in film, art & art history and a minor in psychology. She worked as a front-end developer and UX designer for various agencies in Berlin before joining Booking.com in The Netherlands in 2017.
Jeanna designs Booking.com's Machine Learning and Data Science Platforms. An enthusiast for product design in tech, and data-driven design decisions, she volunteers for Booking.com's Responsible AI initiative, helping to increase data transparency and ML fairness within the company's internal operations.
Kelsey Kjeldsen | Senior Technical Product Manager, Video NBA
Kelsey is a UM alum from the Interactive Media MFA program in 2016. She is the current Senior Technical Product Manager at the National Basketball Association (NBA) managing streaming video advertising throughout the League Pass app. Kelsey has a demonstrated history of leading teams through the full SDLC for mobile, web, and connected devices for OTT and other digital products. She is skilled in JIRA, Agile Development, Market Research, HTML, UX Design and Software Development.
Before joining the NBA, she was Technical Product Manager at Chewy, where she helped drive key initiatives for Chewy’s native mobile apps team and managed cross-functional projects including service migrations, hybridization, and feature-related work across the organization.
Megan Page | Insights Practitioner
Megan Page graduated with the class of 2021, degreed in Interactive Media and Computer Science. Her interest in the field of user experience research and design stemmed from her experience conducting public health research, as a Minority Health and Health Disparities Research Training (MHIRT) grant recipient from the National Institute of Health.
She conducted her study in her family's home country, Jamaica, in collaboration with the School of Nursing and Health Studies at University of Miami and University of the West Indies. To pursue her interests in product design, innovation, and user advocacy, she studied UX design and research, offered by the Interactive Media program. Passionate about user research, she worked on projects for the advancement of medical technology under the University of Miami Institute for Data Science and Computing. Upon graduation, she continued as an insights practitioner for both small startups and large tech corporations.
