##MiamiCommunityConveningOn behalf of the University of Miami’s Office of Civic and Community Engagement (CCE), we are pleased to invite you to our morning symposium, United for Change: Miami’s Forum on Climate, Community and Housing, on Tuesday, October 8, 2024 from 8:30am to 12:00pm. The purpose of this event is to share findings from our two-year initiative on climate gentrification in South Florida and foster meaningful discussions about equitable solutions with key stakeholders, including advocates, architects, policymakers, developers, and elected officials.
The morning will begin with welcome remarks from Maria Escorcia, Executive Director – Southeast Region, JP Morgan Chase & Co. We will then hear from Diane Shelley, Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary for Fair Housing and Equal Opportunity at the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD); Daniella Levine Cava, Mayor of Miami-Dade County; and Lisa Rice, President & CEO of the National Fair Housing Alliance, who will provide local and national perspectives on the issue of climate gentrification and fair housing. Following these presentations, CCE will present our findings related to climate gentrification and its impacts in South Florida. There will be an opportunity for you to engage with other stakeholders in roundtable conversations as we strategize solutions to address the challenges associated with climate gentrification.
