About this Event

Dear Colleagues,
The holiday season often brings joyful moments and cherished memories. However, for many, it can also be a time of sadness, grief, or loneliness. For some, this may be the first Christmas without a loved one. Others may face the challenge of being far from family and friends, recovering from a difficult breakup, or battling a life-limiting illness. Whatever the cause of your sadness or grief, please know you are not alone, and there is hope.
Here are four tips to help navigate this season with compassion for yourself:
B – Be Present and Do Not Pretend.
Be present with where you are in your journey. There is no need to put on a false front to meet others' expectations. Acknowledge your emotions and honor your experience.
L – Listen to Your Heart.
Rather than suppressing emotions, allow yourself to feel them. Avoid numbing your pain with overeating, excessive drinking, or other distractions. Instead, connect with your emotions in healthy ways, such as journaling, talking to trusted friends, or engaging in creative outlets.
U – Understand Personal Boundaries.
You are not obligated to say yes to every holiday gathering or event. It’s okay to protect your energy and decline invitations if you’re not ready. Respect your own needs and give yourself permission to rest and recharge.
E – Establish New Traditions.
If old routines feel empty or painful, consider creating new traditions that bring meaning to your experience. Find ways to honor your loss, foster peace, and promote healing through rituals that resonate with you.
Please remember you are seen, valued, and supported during this season.
We also warmly invite you to join us at the following holiday services:
May this season bring moments of peace, healing, and connection for you and your loved ones.
Warm Regards,
Martin Powell,
Director Spiritual Care Services
