The Washington Post called Valerie Coleman, “one of the top 35 women composers in classical music.” The season kicks off with her remarkable piece, Umoja. The repertoire includes Stravinsky’s The Song of the Nightingale, featuring his signature rhythmic complexity, imaginative orchestration, and melodic beauty. Brahms’ romantic masterpiece, Symphony No. 3, closes the evening.
