The University of Miami School of Nursing and Health Studies is honored to host the following distinguished panel for this event; panel moderator will be Dr. Cindy L. Munro, Dean, and Professor at the School of Nursing and Health Studies:
Roderick K. King, MD, MPH
Dr. King is currently Senior Associate Dean for Diversity, Inclusion and Community Engagement and Director of the MD/MPH Program at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine. He is an Associate Professor in the Department of Public Health Sciences and holds joint appointments in the Department of Pediatrics and the University of Miami Business School Department of Health Policy and Management. Dr. King is also the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) for the Florida Institute for Health Innovation (formerly the Florida Public Health Institute) for the state of Florida. He served as Chairman of the US Department of Health and Human Services Advisory Committee on Minority Health (2010-2016) and as the Senior Advisor to the Bureau of Primary Health Care, Health Resources and Services Administration, US Department of Health and Human Services from 2009-2011.
Osamudia R. James, LLM, JD, BA
Ms. Jones is a Professor of Law and Dean’s Distinguished Scholar at the University of Miami Law School, where she writes and teaches in Education Law, Race and the Law, Administrative Law, and Torts. Professor James also serves as the Associate Dean for Diversity, Equity, and Community at the School of Law, and the Associate Provost for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion at the University. James' scholarship and media commentary explore the interaction of law and identity in the context of public education, and her work has been published in the NYU, Iowa, and Minnesota Law Reviews, as well as in the pages of the New York Times and Washington Post. James was a co-recipient of the 2014 Derrick A. Bell, Jr. Award, a national award presented to a junior faculty member who makes an extraordinary contribution to legal education, the legal system, or social justice through activism, mentoring, teaching, and scholarship was awarded the Hausler Golden Apple Teaching Award in 2017, and is a 2020 University of Miami Public Voices Fellow. James holds a J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center and an LL.M. from the University of Wisconsin where she was a William H. Hastie Fellow.
Deborah J. Jones, Ph.D., BSN
Dr. Jones is Senior Vice President and Dean of the University of Texas Medical Branch School of Nursing. She is also the holder of the Rebecca Sealy Distinguished Centennial Chair. Dr. Jones is well-known for her outstanding mentorship, excellence in education, significant research contributions, and commitment to promoting workforce diversity and the professional development of underrepresented groups. She has held several administrative and leadership roles in academia, healthcare facilities, and professional organizations; including associate dean for professional development and faculty affairs, department chair, assistant dean for undergraduate programs, and nurse research consultant. She has taught in all nursing programs from the baccalaureate to the doctoral levels and led substantial curricula development and revision.
