 Library of Congress in Washington\, D.C.\n\nThe publication of “The Weig
 ht of a Patina of Time” provides an occasion to reflect on a series of w
 orks by Gala Porras-Kim\, whose research-based practice looks closely at t
 he layered meaning of objects in the 21st-century museum. Her in-depth exp
 lorations of the uncertain histories of ancient objects reimagine their pa
 sts while charting new possibilities for their present and future.\n\nDr. 
 Robb's talk will focus on Porras-Kim's affinity for fragments\, conflictin
 g histories\, undeciphered texts\, and other instances of uncertainty with
 in the space of the museum. He will also explore how to address the challe
 nges of maintaining knowledge over centuries in shifting institutional con
 texts through an examination of her Mesoamerican works.\n\nThe presentatio
 n will conclude with a question and answer session with the audience.
