About this Event
Throughout his career, Mickey has created iconic American brands earning him the nickname “The Merchant Prince of America”, a reference to his undisputed influence on shopping trends the last twenty years. During his tenure with Gap, Corp Millard founded Old Navy and Gap Kids taking the company from $400M to $14B business. Following his departure with Gap, Corp he invested in J.Crew and launched Madewell, a trademark he bought with a vision of what it might become and subsequently grew it into a dominant denim and fashion retail company, along with developing J.Crew from a catalogue brand to a globally recognized name. In the mid 1990s, Steve Jobs asked Millard to join the board at Apple Inc. during which time, he most notably helped design and launch the Apple retail experience, which still stands today. Today, Millard is CEO at Alex Mill — a relaunched brand originally started by his son Alex in 2012. Creating “uniforms for individuals”, the small and independent New York retailer now has two stores in the city, and a fast-growing online business selling timeless, well-made pieces for both men and women.
